Individual Therapy
Individual therapy offers a space to slow down and better understand experiences that may feel difficult to manage alone.
You may notice patterns such as overthinking, intrusive thoughts, emotional ups and downs, or reactions that feel difficult to settle, even when part of you already understands what is happening. At times, it may feel as though the same internal cycle continues to return despite efforts to think through it differently.
At ShineRoot Psychotherapy & Wellness, individual therapy focuses on understanding how these patterns unfold over time and how they may be connected to anxiety, relationships, earlier experiences, or the need for certainty and emotional safety.
The work is collaborative and paced with care. Rather than trying to immediately change thoughts or emotions, therapy begins by slowing these experiences down so they can be observed with more clarity and space.
Areas commonly explored in individual therapy may include:
-
Obsessive-compulsive patterns and intrusive thoughts
-
Anxiety and chronic overthinking
-
Relationship and emotional concerns
-
Trauma and attachment-related experiences
-
Emotional regulation and self-understanding
Therapy is offered in English and Mandarin.

Couples Therapy
Couples therapy provides a space to explore recurring relationship dynamics that may feel difficult to shift on your own.
You and your partner may find yourselves returning to the same conversations, misunderstandings, or emotional reactions despite genuine efforts to communicate differently. At times, one partner may seek closeness while the other pulls away, creating cycles that feel painful, confusing, or difficult to interrupt.
Rather than focusing on blame or determining who is “right,” couples therapy focuses on understanding the patterns that develop between partners over time and how each person experiences connection, uncertainty, emotional safety, and conflict within the relationship.
In our work together, we slow these interactions down and explore what tends to happen underneath moments of tension or disconnection. This includes looking at emotional responses, communication patterns, and the ways earlier relational experiences may continue to shape present-day interactions.
Couples therapy may support conversations related to:
-
Relationship anxiety and uncertainty
-
Communication difficulties
-
Emotional distance or recurring conflict
-
Attachment-related dynamics
-
Trust, reassurance, and emotional responsiveness
Therapy is offered in English and Mandarin.

Child Therapy
Children often express emotional experiences differently from adults. Distress may show up through behaviour, emotional reactions, withdrawal, irritability, or difficulties at home or school.
Child therapy provides a supportive and developmentally appropriate space where children can begin to understand and express their internal experiences in ways that feel safe and manageable.
At ShineRoot Psychotherapy & Wellness, therapy is approached with attention to pacing, emotional safety, and the child’s developmental stage. Sessions may involve conversation, creative activities, emotional regulation work, or play-based approaches depending on the child’s needs and comfort level.
Some children may struggle with anxiety, emotional overwhelm, transitions, family stress, or relational difficulties with peers or caregivers. At times, these experiences can feel difficult for children to explain directly, even when they are affecting daily life.
Caregiver involvement is included when appropriate, with attention to supporting understanding and communication within the child’s environment.
Child therapy may address experiences related to:
-
Anxiety and emotional regulation
-
School-related stress
-
Social and peer difficulties
-
Family transitions or relational stress
-
Behavioural and emotional patterns
Therapy is offered in English and Mandarin.

Family Therapy
Family therapy offers a space to explore the patterns and dynamics that exist within family relationships, especially when communication feels difficult, emotionally charged, or stuck in repeated cycles.
Within families, it is common for misunderstandings, tension, or emotional distance to develop over time. At times, each person may be responding from their own emotional experience, while also trying to be understood by others in the system. These interactions can sometimes feel difficult to shift, even when there is a desire for change.
At ShineRoot Psychotherapy & Wellness, family therapy focuses on understanding these relational patterns within the family system and how they may be influenced by stress, life transitions, emotional needs, or past experiences that continue to shape current interactions.
The work is collaborative and paced with care. Therapy supports family members in slowing down interactions, increasing understanding of each other’s perspectives, and creating more space for communication and connection to develop.
Areas commonly explored in family therapy may include:
-
Communication difficulties within the family system
-
Conflict between parents and children or between family members
-
Emotional distance or disconnection
-
Life transitions affecting family dynamics
-
Stress, anxiety, or emotional regulation within the family context
-
Parenting challenges and intergenerational patterns
Therapy is offered in English and Mandarin.
